AHEAD TANZANIA
AHEAD Tanzania was established in 1987 by Mama Elvira Felton-Williams and Dr. Irving Williams who worked at Bugando Hospital, Mwanza from 1974 to 1977. The main thrust was to assist local communities in Tanzania with community projects and initiatives in the sectors of Health, Education and Agriculture. AHEAD Tanzania was first registered under the Societies Ordinance, 1954, obtaining Registration Certificate No 7055.
Dr. Winnie M. Shumbusho is a Co-founder of AHEAD Tanzania. Together with the “Williamses”, she set the stage for the not-for-profit organization in 1981. She was the first Director of AHEAD Tanzania, working on a voluntary basis. Currently she is a member of AHEAD Tanzania Advisory Council. In May 2008, AHEAD Tanzania obtained its Certificate of Compliance No. 1996 under the NGOs Act No. 24 of 2002. AHEAD Tanzania reports to the Registrar of NGOs under the Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children. In 2019 AHEAD Tanzania obtained a new certificate of registration No. 00NGO/R2/000333 following the ammendment of the NGOs Act No 24 of 2002 by Act No. 3 of 2019. Consequently, AHEAD Tanzania adopted its new constitution in line with the new NGOs legislation in Tanzania. The Head Office is located in Maruku village, Bukoba District, Kagera Region.
