The summer is not full, unless an AHEAD event is a part of your summer festivities.  And the summer 2009 in Washington, DC the "Friends of AHEAD, DC" hosted an event, not to be missed.  A wonderful time was had by one and all at the inaugural AHEAD Washington, DC Summer Soiree and Fundraiser, on Wednesday July 15, 2009, hosted by the "Friends of AHEAD, DC" at the majestic Stewart Mott House on Capitol Hill, in the heart our the nations capital.  AHEAD's friends and patrons were in full regalia, mixing and mingling, sharing experiences, and learning about AHEAD and our activities in Tanzania and the Gambia, while enjoying a beautiful summer evening at this most historic venue.  This effort served as an exciting branding exercise, with all proceeds directly funding programming organized in support of the people in the most critically challenges communities in Tanzania and the Gambia. 

Over 100 guests participated in this evenings events, where the opportunity was provided to see and hear testimonials about the enriching experiences AHEAD provides for our volunteers as shared by engaging discussions from Melissa Clarke, MD, Michelle (Miamuna) Coghill Chatman (former AHEAD Gambian Programming Director), and Carl Mayfield (AHEAD BOD), as well as the wealth of programming and partnerships AHEAD has been committed to for decades.  AHEAD enthusiastically thanks our organizing committee which consisted of Bernard (Bob) Nunes, Nancee Lyons, Robin Bishop, Mellissa Clarke,MD, Rose Blackburn, MD, and Wayne Bruce, as well as The Renaissance Group for all their efforts.  We all sincerely thank those who participated in making this a magnificently successful event, and insuring that this is the must attend event for the Washington, DC progressive and philanthropic community in the future.  AHEAD looks forward to seeing you there next year.
