Saving Lives Today, Sustaining Communities Tomorrow |
The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that the Maternal Mortality Rate in Tanzania is 578 death per 100,000 live births among mothers compared with 13/100,000 in the USA, 5/100,000 in Japan and 3/100,000 in Finland. The major causes of the MMR are hemorrhage, Eclampsia, obstructed labor, sepsis and unsafe abortions - all preventable. This is catastrophic and unacceptable. Long distances to a health facility in rural villages, lack of transportation, inadequate and limited medical equipment and supplies are reasons given by women for not delivering in a health facility. Please help us purchase village ambulances to transport expectant mothers from their homes to a facility equipped for maternal and newborn care. |
