AHEAD Hosts their Inaugural Martha's Vineyard Summer Soiree August 1, 2008 at the Gear House in Oak Bluffs, Massachusetts!Sunday, August 2, 2008
Curtis and Ida Gear, and Dr. Karen Gear, AHEAD Board Member, in partnership with AHEAD, Inc., hosted a spectacularly successful Inaugural Annual AHEAD Fundraiser in Oak Bluffs, at the lovely summer home of the Gear Family on the island of Martha's Vineyard, on Saturday, August 1, 2008. The AHEAD message of working in tandem with challenged communities to effectively reduce the catastrophic health disparities and mortality rate in rural and impovished communities in Tanzania, was, the theme of this festive and engaging gathering. The Gear family and AHEAD were able to spead the news about AHEAD and we were able to raise substantial donations to benefit AHEAD's Masaki Hospital Support Project and the E-Ranger AHEAD Ambulance Program for Eastern Tanzania! AHEAD has been committed to improving the health, and reducing the morbidity that affects the daughters, sisters, mothers, and grandmothers in the communities and villages in which AHEAD has worked for nearly three decades. The Oak Bluffs fundraiser at the Gear home was organized to direct all proceeds to capacity building and hospital development at Masaki Hospital, and help establish a much needed ambulance transportation system for the Coast region of Eastern Tanzania with E-Ranger ambulance devices. These efforts will help reduce the catastrophic maternal mortality and fetal mortality in the Coast region of Tanzania.

The Martha's Vineyard Summer Soiree Committee, again transformed the Gear summer home, with its majestic gardens and pool, into a spectacular cocktail party with live jazz, dancing, food, and great conversation. The message of "partying with a purpose" was fully manifested. In the typical AHEAD spirit, everyone volunteered their efforts, ensuring the event was an overwhelming success. The food and spirits were to perfection. Guests participated in an exciting auction and danced into the night to live music. AHEAD Board Members Karen Gear and Donna Williams welcomed the attendees and engaged them with an understanding about the work that AHEAD has been committed to for over 27 years. Dr. Irving Williams, AHEAD Medical Director and co-founder discussed out current programming and the need for supprt for our work. The event was a spectacular success! AHEAD is grateful to all those friends who attended and contributed to this fabulous event and thank them all for their generosity and support. We look forward to your attndance at one of the many upcoming AHEAD events in the near future. Look for additional details about other similar AHEAD events slated for 2009 and 2010 on our website. |
